"More tea, dear?" Mrs. Gable asked, her voice a soothing murmur. Sarah, seated across the small kitchen table, nodded, her fingers idly tracing the floral pattern on the teacup. Sunlight poured in through the lace-curtained window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air.

She listened to Mrs. Gable's tales of local gossip, a light smile playing on her lips. The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the room. The rhythmic clinking of china and the gentle hum of conversation were a familiar comfort.

A uniformed figure knocked firmly. The rhythmic sound broke into the tranquil atmosphere. Mrs. Gable, with a confused look, slowly rose to answer the door.
